What sets Bug apart from other furniture designs is its insect-inspired form. The seating elements feature a main body and legs made from lacquered material upon the MDF Lam material. The upper section of the seats is covered with fabric over sponge, providing comfort and style.
The stools, on the other hand, have a main body made from colored lacquered material over MDF Lam. This combination of materials ensures durability and visual appeal. The dimensions of the armchair include a width of 900 mm, a seating section height of 420 mm, and a backrest section height of 850 mm. The stools come in variable widths of 40/55/65 mm and a height of 420 mm.
Designed in March 2017, the Bug project is still ongoing, with prototype trials being conducted. The design process involved a careful examination of various insect typologies to create a resemblance in the seating and leg parts of the furniture. Different sketches were studied, and the golden proportion system was applied to achieve a harmonious design.
One of the challenges faced during the design process was maintaining balance due to the unique leg forms of the armchairs and stools. This was overcome by dissolving pressure to the floor and rounding the unused leg spaces, resulting in a more insect-like design.
Bug's significant character lies in its colorful and modern appeal. It can be applied to common areas in various combinations, making it suitable for different spaces. Whether it's a vibrant office lounge or a contemporary living room, Bug adds a touch of creativity and functionality.
Harun Ayaydın, the designer behind Bug, holds the copyrights to this unique creation. The design was awarded the Bronze A' Design Award in the Furniture Design category in 2018.
